ABOUT AYURVEDA

Ayurveda is the science of life. A holistic Indian system of medicine going back 7,000 years, it is the oldest continuously practiced form of medicine on earth. Ayurveda emphasizes balance, prevention, and self-healing. It is a system of holistic healing, because it looks at the whole picture of total health: unity of mind, body and spirit, but also spiritual evolution, environmental mindfulness, and mental and emotional harmony. AYURVEDA AND THE HUMAN BODY

Ayurveda believes that the human body is a microcosm of the universe. Above all, Ayurveda is an individualized science. Every human being has a unique mind-body constitution (or dosha), that are based on the Five Classical Elements: earth, water, fire, air, and ether. No two people are the same - everyone is born with a unique combination of the five elements that determines our strengths and weaknesses in this life.

In Ayurvedic philosophy, the five elements combine in pairs to form the three doshas.

Vata: Made up of ether and air, vata represents movement in the body and mind. Vata is cold, light, irregular, mobile, dry, and rough.

Pitta: Made up of fire and water, Pitta is the principle of transformation in the body and mind. Pitta is hot, light, and sharp.

Kapha: Composed of earth and water, Kapha is structure and lubrication in the body and mind. Kapha is oily, cold, heavy, dense, and smooth.

Ayurveda places special emphasis on individual constitution and develops a systematic approach towards maintaining your physical and mental health after understanding the characteristics of your body and mind. Depending on lifestyle, diet, season, life stage, and climate, over time we may fall out of balance. Ayurveda helps you to identify an imbalance in the body-mind, so the body can return to its original state of harmony with nature and the universe.

This questionnaire will help you determine the Vata-Pitta-Kapha combination that you were born with and represents your state of perfect equilibrium and balance within the body-mind.
